Fundraising Construction Update

Friends of the Bodhi,

We are writing to THANK YOU once again for your incredible support of the Bodhi Manda Zen Center. With help from our friends like you, the Fundrasing Retreat and Gala was a phenomenal success. Those funds (over $100,000!) are being put to great use and we want to show you the difference your contributions have already made!

As you can see above, a portion of the event proceeds has been used, as promised, to replace the failing roof on our beloved Zendo building with a strong new one! We will also be opening up the interior of the Zendo to see if a beautiful cathedral ceiling is possible. We want to acknowledge Peg Froelic and Melanie Van Amsterdam, previous members of the Board of Trustees, who initiated and contributed countless hours of their time to this project.

Another portion of your contributions are also being used to build a scenic covered deck at the west end of the Zendo building, overlooking the soaring red rock mesas and the Jemez River!

Other projects that we envision in the coming year include upgrading the geothermal heating system around the whole property with geothermal heat exchangers. This strategy has proven itself maintenance free for fourteen years in the present sutra hall! We also look forward to upgrading the guest house building and creating a changing room for visitors to our traditional Japanese natural hot springs.

We hope that you will consider spending time at the Bodhi this year to witness these wonderful improvements in person, enjoy the scenery, share in our warm community growing here, and participate in spiritual practice. We are planning another Fundraising Gala on September 29, 2018 — more information to come! — and we welcome your participation as a regular member of the BMZC as well.

Whether you are stopping by to visit in between retreats, joining us for our First Annual Summer Institute in Buddhism (June 14-17), practicing in Zen Buddhist Sesshin (7 day intensive meditation retreats on April 7-14, May 5-12 and May 18-23), participating in our intensive monastic training period ( April 29 through May 25), or joining one of the many retreats other groups hold at the Bodhi, you are an important member of our community and we look forward to seeing you.
