In the spring and autumn, the Bodhi focuses primarily on providing formal monastic training in Zen Buddhist practices for committed students, while during the off-season the Center opens to the public and functions as a guest house, giving visitors the option to participate in the daily monastic activities or enjoy the facilities on their own schedule. Visit our Zen Meditation, Residential Practice, Work Exchange and Community Programs pages for more details about our offerings.
Throughout the summer, the Bodhi rents out the property to a diverse mixture of independent retreat groups, some of which have been returning for over thirty years. Participants are encouraged to perform a service for Bodhi Manda and form relationships through fully engaging with one another, the environment and the Bodhi staff. These connections help bridge the gap between the ideas of Buddhist and non-Buddhist.
The Center’s daily hours of operation are Wednesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The center is closed on Monday and Tuesday.
The Center’s year-long schedule is as follows, and more details can be viewed in the monthly calendar further below:
- Spring (April, May) & Fall (October, November): Our guesthouse is not opened to the public during this time due to monastic training. Daily practice, monthly Zazenkai, full moon meditation and the 7-day meditation retreat take place as usual.
- Rest of the year: The guesthouse is opened to the public and the facility is available for other groups to rent for their events. Daily practice, monthly Zazenkai, full moon meditation and the 7-day meditation retreat take place as usual.
