The artist, Joten Soko, was Joshu Roshi’s second teacher. The main calligraphy translates to “Silence.”

“Silence.” (Miura) Joten Soko, 1872 – 1958; The Myoshin-ji branch; 624th Chief Abbot of Myoshin-ji; 127th Abbot and former Zen Master of Zuigan-ji, Matsushima in Miyagi.
