Hand in hand with the coming of the cold winter weather, a group of ten people participated in this year’s Rohatsu Dai-Sesshin at Bodhi Manda, led with strength and love by Koshin Chris Cain and Hosen Christiane Ranger.
Early in the morning of the first day, during the first frosty kinhin, the group was encouraged by the local owl, who was finally seen sitting atop the flag pole. An auspicious sign for the powerful week ahead! Daily dharma talks by Koshin and Hosen on the ‘Teachings to the Tenzo’ by Dogen renewed the group’s resolve to sit with intention.
We offer great gratitude to our visiting Tenzos, Anne Arkin and Gigen Mammoser for their tireless efforts at nourishing our often aching bodies. It was a week of silence and awakening, as the group as a whole practiced with the Buddha’s spirit. Special thanks to Board Member Melanie van Amsterdam for donating a wonderful Thanksgiving feast.
All in all a wonderful week that exemplified the potential of Bodhi Manda and the timeless necessity of zen teachings and practices. Gassho to everyone involved and the sangha for making this rohatsu possibly. See you next year!
